Mountain Loop Special

A Mountainous Adventure in the Wilds of Guatemala
About This

This 8 Day tour takes you through some of the best riding in all of Central America. We designed this tour with a focus on the riding experience. We take great mountain passes, weave through canyons, and end up in great hotels every night. If you only have a week off work and want to see what Guatemala really has to offer, this is the trip for you!

Day 1

Airport Pick-Up

Welcome to Guatemala! We meet you at La Aurora Airport (GUA) in Guatemala City with a private shuttle and bring you to the historic town of Antigua for the night (45 minute drive).

Day 2

Volcanoes of Antigua

4 hours riding, 0-35% off pavement
We will meet at our shop where we will familiarize you with your bike and have a briefing about the tour. We’ll then go on a Cultural ride in the foothills and villages surrounding Antigua. We’ll have nice volcano views and get adjusted the bikes.

We will make several interesting stops to get a feel for the local character and style of life in Guatemala. We’ll visit many places today that typical tourists never get to see.

The rest of the afternoon will be yours to wander the beautiful cobblestone streets of Antigua. We will help you get local currency today if needed.

Day 3

To Lake Atitlan

5.5 hours riding, 0-35% off pavement
We’ll head out Antigua this morning and head West towards Lake Atitlan. As we leave town we’ll zig-zag our way up a volcano to 8,500 feet of elevation, and cross canyons on our way to the lake.

Today we’ll experience scenic riding all day long. We’ll be off an on dirt roads that connect small villages and wind us across the hills. We’ll have some nice lookout points, and also drop down into ravines with winding canyon roads.

When we arrive at the lake it will be revealed with great panoramic views of the surrounding volcanoes. We’ll hug the upper edge of the lake and wind down to the lakeside town of Panajachel where we will spend the night. As the sun sets we’ll enjoy a cocktail from a dockside restaurant right on the water. Sunset over the lake is a spectacular sight.

Later on we will walk across town and have dinner in unique bar with great food, live music, and a lot of local flare.

Day 4

Into the Mountains

6 hours riding, 0-30% off pavement
After a nice breakfast at the hotel we’ll pack up and head out for a day in the mountains. Today we head North towards the HueHue region of Guatemala.

When we leave town we’ll ride along the lake before heading up several thousand feet. The temperature will drop a bit and we may ride into the clouds depending on the weather. Soon enough we’ll start dropping elevation again and we’ll have a comfortable cruise through the hills.

We’ll head North towards Chichicastenango, made famous for having the largest open air market in Central America. We’ll take short break to explore the market and have lunch.

After lunch, as we continue North, the roads will really open up and we’ll have beautiful paved across some valleys and then up into the Cuchumatanes mountain range through hundreds of tight curves that cut into the mountainside. experience.

We’ll sleep deep in the hills in a remote village, where locals wear traditional woven clothing, and tourists rarely visit.

Day 5

Into the Rainforest

7 hours riding, 30% off pavement
If you liked the riding yesterday, then you’re sure to LOVE the riding today! In the morning, after breakfast on the farm we’ll head back up over the mountains on our way towards the rainforest in the region of Coban.

We’ll wind through farms and mountains all day, and then cross through a huge landslide site. We’ll cross some bridges, and stop for several great photo opportunities. Today we are passing through remote regions of the country and we get a sense of how far out some people really live!

As we head down towards Lanquin the temperature will rise and the surroundings will turn very lush. We’ll cross back and forth between pavement and dirt and carve trough large palms and tropical vegetation. We’ll stay along a tranquil river in a jungle lodge where we will have s communal buffet style dinner and relax on the dock with a drink.

Day 6

Semuc Champey

After 4 days of back-to-back riding, today we’ll have a day off the bikes. We’ll take a 4×4 to visit the National Park site of Semuc Champey. This is a popular destination in Guatemala for both tourists and locals.

At the park we’ll hike up to a lookout point with a full view down over the falls. We’ll then get to go swimming in the natural blue pools. There is a cave system to explore, waterfalls, and even natural water-slides. There is also a chance of seeing monkeys!

Day 7

The Mountains to Antigua

8 hours riding, 20-40% off pavement
After a big breakfast we’ll be on the road early on our way back to Antigua. Today is our longest day on the road of the whole trip. It also has some of the best riding you’ll experience.

The roads today are beautiful and wind up and down through the hills of Central Guatemala. We’ll have great climbs, great views, and thrilling descents.

There are a couple route options available today, which we’ll discuss with the group the day before heading out –  both of which are fantastic choices and have their own perks.

As we ride back into Antigua in the afternoon we’ll bring you straight to the hotel so you can get settled. We often have a group dinner on the final night of the tour, but we’ll make this decision once we’re at the hotel. You are welcome to do some exploring or souvenir shopping if you prefer.

Day 8
