The 12 Day Mayan Motorcycle Discover Tour visits all the most impressive and historic sites in Guatemala. We blend a perfect mix of incredible dual sport riding and cultural immersion and exploration.
Welcome to Guatemala! We meet you at La Aurora Airport (GUA) in Guatemala City with a private shuttle and bring you to the historic town of Antigua for the night (45 minute drive).
Volcanoes of Antigua
5 hours, 0-35% off pavement
We will meet at our shop where we will familiarize you with your bike and have a briefing about the tour. We’ll then go on a Cultural ride in the foothills and villages surrounding Antigua. We’ll have nice volcano views and make many unique stops to visit places normal tourists never get to see.
You will have the evening to wander the beautiful cobblestone streets of Antigua. We will help you get local currency today if needed.
To Lake Atitlan
5.5 hours, 0-35% off pavement
Today we head out on the road, and we won’t be back for 9 days! As we leave town we’ll zig-zag our way up a volcano to 8,500 feet of elevation, and cross canyons on our way to Lake Atitlan. As we arrive at the lake we’ll see amazing vistas of the coastline and surrounding volcanoes. Tonight we will spend the night in town of Panajachel right by the lake with wonderful views. We’ll enjoy a drink and watch the sunset come down over the water.
Into the Mountains
6 hours riding, 0-30% off pavement
In the morning we’ll cut along the water’s edge, then climb up switchbacks out to the pavement. We will head North towards Chichicastenango where they have the largest open air market in Central America. We’ll take short break to explore the market and have lunch, then continue North towards the Cuchumatanes mountain range. We’ll have incredible riding through the valley, then we’ll wind up and down large mountain passes. We’ll sleep deep in the hills at a remote cheese farm in small cabins. It’s a truly unique experience.
Weaving Through the Mountains
6 hours, 10-40% off pavement
In the morning, after breakfast on the farm we’ll head back up over the mountains on our way towards Coban. If you like the riding yesterday, you’ll love it today! We’ll wind through farms and mountains all day. The temperature will change with the scenery as we traverse the mountains and pass through many small villages. We’ll cross through a huge old landslide site as we head toward the center of Guatemala. We’ll stay in very comfortable accommodations with great restaurants on site.
The Jungle Landscape
After a hearty breakfast we’ll continue North and drop huge elevation into the lowlands of Guatemala. The temperatures will raise and the scenery will become more lush. We’ll load the bikes onto a make-shift barge to cross river Sayaxche. Once across we’ll run some exciting two lane roads to the Island of Flores, where we stay for the night.
Off day, visiting Tikal
The tremendous Mayan ruins of Tikal are just a short ride from Flores. Tikal is one of the ancient wonders of Central America and is a must-see. We’ll have a local guide to walk us through the park and explain the history and significance of the pyramids. There is also the chance to see monkeys and many other exotic animals and birds.
A Nice Place to Stay
8 hours, 0-25% off pavement
We will have nice pavement and dirt all day on our way to Rio Dulce. We’ll stop on a small farm for a great breakfast. We’ll visit a great waterfall site with opportunities for swimming. We’ll also have the option of taking a boat ride on the river and visiting the San Felipe Castle which was used to defend the region against pirates. We’ll spend the night in private bungalows in a jungle lodge on the river.
Over to Lanquin
6 hours, 75% off pavement
We’ll hug the coast of Lake Isabal on a mix of pavement and gravel roads. Then, as we reach the end of the lake the road begins to narrow and it starts to wind us up the mountains of Altaverapaz. Today will be mostly dirt riding and an incredible thrill. The roads are very twisty with great vistas in every direction. Tonight we will again stay in a Jungle lodge situated alongside a turquoise river.
Today we’ll relax in the natural blue pools of Semuc Champey, one of the most popular destinations in Guatemala. There is a cave system to explore, waterfalls, and even natural water-slides.
The Mountains to Antigua
9 hours, 20-40% off pavement
After a big breakfast we’ll be on the road early on our way back to Antigua. Today is our biggest riding day and takes us through incredible landscapes. The roads today wind up and down through the hills of Central Guatemala. We’ll have great climbs, great views, and thrilling descents.
Goodbyes are always sad, but you’re headed to the airport, and we’ll get you there. Our shuttle takes you to the airport for your departure.
If you’d like to stay an extra day (or two) in Antigua, we’ll be happy to accommodate you and make the necessary arrangements. Please let us know if you would like to stay longer.
